Create a “Holiday-worthy” Kitchen for Entertaining

by Drew Henry

There’s No Place Like the Kitchen for the Holidays

It’s beginning to feel a lot like the holidays — the snow is falling, the fireplace is roaring, and the twinkling lights are setting the mood. But is your kitchen ready for the holiday season’s deluge of roasted turkeys, gingerbread cookies, and hot chocolates? If your kitchen looks like something from Christmas Past, it may be time to plan a refresh before you host friends and family. Don’t worry! The LiLi Tile Team is here to help you create a holiday-worthy kitchen for entertaining with a few easy kitchen refresh tips.

How to Design a Kitchen for Holiday Entertaining

Get holiday ready with our easy tips to design a kitchen for entertaining. Who cares about holiday light displays when you can have the most festive kitchen on the block?

1. Add a Large Island with Bar Seating

Whether you’re decorating cookies, stuffing a turkey, or simply enjoying a mug of hot apple cider, the kitchen island often becomes the central hub for holiday entertaining. If you have the space, add a large kitchen island with bar seating so your friends and family can gather around while you prepare your holiday feast.

2. Create a Focal Point Backsplash

We spend a lot of time in our kitchens during the holidays, so they should be functional and beautiful. An easy way to improve the look of your space is to upgrade your backsplash. Our Rita and Fiori cement tiles are dynamic, playful, and timeless backsplash options. As a holiday bonus, their patterns even resemble snowflakes!

3. Invest in Gourmet Appliances

Cooking a holiday meal is no easy feat, but the right appliances can be an even bigger help than Santa’s elves. Invest in appliance upgrades before hosting large parties. Consider installing a large range, double ovens, and even double dishwashers to help with clean-up! Other helpful appliances you may want to splurge on could include an automatic ice maker, an espresso machine, and maybe even a pizza oven.

4. Match Your Cabinets to Your Backsplash Tile

Choosing kitchen finishes is a lot like trimming a tree. You must stick to a theme and coordinate colors to pull off the look. Consider matching your cabinet paint color to your backsplash tile for an easy refresh. Our LiLi Tile Team is really into color, so we have you covered with many options. For example, you could select our Tiffany elongated hex tiles in classic black and white, muted sage, or pretty pink, and match your cabinets accordingly.

5. Coordinate Your Tile and Kitchen Accessories

While you’re at it, why not coordinate your backsplash tile with your kitchen accessories? At LiLi Homes, our team has reimagined our tile designs into stylish kitchen oven mitts and aprons. Now, you can cook pretty wearing your Tiffany apron next to your Tiffany tile backsplash. As a holiday bonus, these home goods make the perfect stocking stuffers!

6. Unite the Kitchen and Dining Areas

A good flow between the kitchen and entertaining spaces can make or break your holiday party. If you have the budget and time, consider tearing down dividing walls to open your kitchen up to your dining and living spaces. If removing a wall means losing Santa’s chimney, try uniting your kitchen and dining room with matching floor tiles for visual flow. Our 8x8 cement tiles are beautiful and durable, so they can seamlessly transition from the kitchen to the dining room to the patio!

7. Build a Butler’s Pantry

If you’re the holiday host with the most, create a butler’s pantry to store all your extra dishes, platters, and glasses. You can even use this space for additional food prep or as a spot for the catering service to set up. (Don’t worry. We’ll keep your secret  and insist everything was homemade.)

8. Embrace Holiday Color Schemes Year-round

Who says red and green are only for the holidays? If you love holiday entertaining, embrace a holiday color scheme in your kitchen year-round. Whether you’re a fan of red and green, blue and white, or silver and gold, we have you covered with beautiful cement tile selections. Go for a classic look with our vibrant red and green Trinidad cement tile. Or, stick to something more modern with our minimalist blue and white Twinkle tile. If you want to add a little holiday shimmer, spice things up with our brass inlay Atelier cement tile. These tiles are like the bow on the holiday kitchen present!

Oh, the Weather Outside is Frightful, But the Kitchen is So Delightful!

While the weather outside might be frightful, your holiday-worthy kitchen will be oh-so delightful! Whether you take on a full kitchen remodel to accommodate your growing holiday parties or opt for a simple upgrade to cozy up your space, we know you will have a wonderful holiday season full of joy.

Wishing you a merry, bright, and colorful holiday season!
